Welcome to issue 43 of

Catalyst

The exciting science journal for young people aged 14-19 and their educators. Covering scientific research and industrial developments, real life STEM stories, career journeys, STEM expeditions and adventure.

Catalyst Magazine brings STEM subjects to life, showcasing real world topics, issues, and solutions. Written by academics, scientists, engineers, and educators. Published three times a year and accompanied by learning notes filled with activities and ideas to support curricular learning and encourage research and informed debate.

Catalyst takes a deep dive into understanding the effects of noise pollution on dolphins and investigates how pollen evidence from the past gives insight into the Black Death. We brush up our smiles and uncover the science behind the superheroes on our screens before uncovering the links between vaccines, biotherapeutics and cellular meat. The fascinating and inspiring career journeys of two very different engineers show that you can achieve your goals no matter what life throws at you. We end with an exploration of the hot heat power source beneath our feet set to help with climate change.
